We started with a small group of like minded people who aimed for clean beaches and ocean life conservation. The same mindset being shared with many more has now become a family of, approximately 30-35 people dedicating their Sundays to voluntarily take part in cleaning beaches, which is a huge part of this drive.
Our prime concern being concentrated around the collection and disposal of variety wastes which finally end up in the seas, we have therefore put most of our plans around the ocean and it's health. Many NGOs and non-profit organisations have extended their support in the efforts to keep Kundapura clean.
As the adage “ Sea originates in the mountains” , popular among fisherfolk suggests the interlinkages between terrestrial and marine ecosystems. As rivers flow through the mainland and joins the sea, the mismanaged solid waste from the mainland is more likely to reach the sea.
We have gone beyond picking up trash and have collected each item in a systematic way to identify ways to eliminate ocean trash. We have collaborated with Reef Watch to conduct waste audits and brand assessments to establish patterns of waste being washed into the sea.
